Web Team's Development Cycle and Support Standards

Attached is the working version of the web team's Development Cycle and Support Standards. This document explains to the CEU Community how the Web Team works and what can they expect in terms of service (standard requests, timings, etc.)

CEU Website, 4.1 Iteration, improvements

Dear CEU Community

We are pleased to announce the next version of our Website (4.1) which contains a series of functional, design and content improvements.

The new features are described in the attached document and relate to Academic Areas, Academic/Professional Profiles, standard minisite functions and various types of content. Naturally, we have fixed a large number of bugs, broken links, missing content and other shortcomings of the previous version launched on October 20.

CEU Website Barometer, Edition 1

The first edition of the CEU Website Barometer has been produced. It is a one-page bullet-point brief update which the web team plans to produce regularly. Please find it attached in .pdf format below.

How to give feedback to the CEU Web Team

To help the Web Team process your requests most efficiently, there are two (2) primary ways feedback should be given. The method you should choose, depends on the nature of your feedback. Use the following text for guidance:

Method One: for General Feedback or Support Requests -- Use Email, or our Contact Form

If you have a general comment, or question about how the website looks or content is delivered, or how to undertake a certain action, for example:

Image handling with imagefield and custom pseudo-filter

Pilot Website Newsletter - May 15, 2008

CEU PILOT WEBSITE NEWS

* The site has moved to new dedicated server which will also host e-learning

* The work on themes (layouts, colours, fonts, graphics) has been going in
accordance with the earlier announced plan (with the main institutional
theme called CEUMAIN and minisite sub-themes as its variations);
* New minisites started for the Academic Cooperation and Research Support
Office (/acro) and the Department of Public Policy (/dpp)

PLANNED NEXT STEPS
* "academic profile" function;

Reflections and proposals on file management

There are currently many methods to handle files on the pilot Website. The two directly competing ones are WebFM and IMCE. The advantages of WebFM are that it allows very easy file and directory management and permissions setting. Essentially you can drag and drop files into directories and easily attach them to the content. The disadvantage is that it currently does not integrate with TinyMCE, our editor.

CEU Pilot Website Update 4 (Dec 2008)

This CEU Pilot Website Update summarizes the developments in the second half of December. Note that the previous update (no 3) was prepared on December 16 but sent only on December 29th (this is a bug in the system that we need to fix), so don't be surprised if this Newsletter also arrives late. I will also be sending it over regular email, just in case.

Reporting Issues

Why issues?

The list of Issues is similar to a shared To-Do list. If you notice that something should be done with the Website but cannot immediately do it yourself, then record an issue. Some of the reasons to use Issues are:

Website Forums

There are two forums about this Website:

  • Feedback on Content and Appearance Forum is self-explanatory. One can post comments about improving certain texts, re-shuffling menues or updating pictures or colours. We may also use this forum for developing taxonomies and structures.
  • Help and Technical Support Forum is for asking technical questions about working with the Website. It is primarily for Website Editors and Administrators as well as, eventually, ordinary users;

CEU Pilot Website Update 3 (Dec 2008)

Dear friends and colleagues:
This is a brief informal update about our pilot Website which you are all helping to create.
First, I would like to congratulate the International Roma Research Network and the Environment, Energy and Security Project which have created first public websites using our platform.

Public or private: visibility of your posts

How to control the visibility of your posts (blogs, pages, etc.) on the pilot Website? I am attaching a table which clarifies the situation at the moment. Here is a short summary of the most significant points:

3. Website Rules

This section outline currently valid conventions, rules and procedures for using the CEU Pilot Website.

CEU Pilot Website Update 1 (Oct 2008)

Let me briefly summarize some of the developments I've tried at the Pilot Drupal Website.

1. General site reorganization. I have re-organized the blocks and the menus to make them more logical.
